For anyone wanting to follow in the footsteps of one of our state’s pioneering explorers, the Holland Track is a great weekend / long weekend trip to undertake with friends.

The Holland Track was first blazed in 1893 by a team led by John Holland looking to create a shortcut to the booming Goldfields from Albany. Starting at Broome Hill, the now popular 4WD route is a great trip to undertake with a small convoy over a extended long weekend.

Approximately 700kms in length, the track passes through sections of the Great Southern, Wheat Belt and Goldfields regions of Western Australia, including the largest intact area of Mediterranean climate woodlands left in the world.

The Cave Hill Woodlines forms part of the greater Woodlines network which were used to supply wood to the Goldfields in support of the mining operations there. Sections of the woodlines were in operation until as late as the mid 1960’s.

John Holland's short cut to the gold rushes was a major route for eager diggers in the 1890s. A century on, the route was rediscovered by 4wdrivers and the popularity of this historic track has never waned with adventurous modern-day travellers.

You can now do in days what Holland took months to achieve. This book provides detailed, two-way trip notes of the entire 4WD section. These are coupled with selected GPS waypoints and descriptions of the various granite outcrops, gnamma holes and all the other fascinating features you'll discover along the way.
